[NEWS] Arizona State seeks revenue for stadium renovations

Arizona State officials are seeking state permission to set up a special taxation district to help pay for renovations to Sun Devil Stadium.

The bill, which would also extend to Northern Arizona and the Unversity of Arizona, allows the school to set up additional taxation on new commercial real-estate development on university land. The revenue generated by the tax would be used to fund renovations to Sun Devil Stadium, a facility in sore need of some TLC: school officials want to spend $60 million on structural improvements, and the rest for improvements to the stadium's physical plant, concessions and field.

If it passes, don't look for any improvements to Sun Devil Stadium any time soon: Arizona State officials say there are no current plans for commercial development on university land.
