The University of Minnesota has signed on with Keyframe and Daktronics to satisfy their need for creative content and event production for the upcoming sporting seasons of Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Hockey, Volleyball, Gymnastics and Wresting. On July 1st Daktronics placed a full-time event producer, Tadd Wilson, on site at the University of Minnesota to fulfill the contract for all of the above mentioned events taking place at TCF Bank Stadium, Williams Arena and Mariucci Arena on campus.
"We are excited about our new full service partnership with Keyframe,” said Jason Lafrenz, Assistant Athletic Director - Marketing and Ticket Sales, University of Minnesota Athletics. ”They have become a ‘one-stop shop’ for the University of Minnesota for all of our creative, staffing and operational needs. In September, the University will be unveiling one of the biggest and best scoreboards in all of college Football and Keyframe has helped us ensure that our fans will be impressed!”
With the football season nearing, Keyframe is currently working on producing several pieces of content that includes crowd prompts, headshots and sponsor animations. With football coming back on campus, the University of Minnesota decided to use a clean, bold, collegiate style for their content while keeping the past history of Gopher Football in mind. This style includes the incorporation of brick textures from the outside of the stadium, mesh textures from the jersey's, leather football textures, and images from the days when football was on campus.
One specific piece is a versus animation that begins with the helmets set against a wall with brick work and arches that are representative of the exterior of the new stadium. Maroon flags with the Minnesota logo hang in the arches of the wall with a golden sky in the background. The camera pans across the Gophers helmet and then the helmet of that game's opposing team. The helmets take off speeding towards each other and crash together to reveal the two helmets and text projected against a brick wall background.
"We started working with the Gophers back in April to start developing the style,” said Keyframe Art Director Jason Rogers. “In our fast pace industry with quick turnaround times, it's unusual that we get this much time to work with the clients to develop the look and feel for their content. The time we've spent working together has helped ensure that they are getting the content package they want. It's been a great experience working with them and I look forward working with them more in the future.”
Keyframe is on-call for the University of Minnesota as other sports in this contract begin their seasons and need corresponding creative content.
